Visit to the Bogotá Free Trade Zone Boosts Eco-Industrial Parks

A visit to the Bogotá Free Trade Zone (Zona Franca de Bogotá – ZFB) marked an important step in strengthening cooperation ties between Peru, Colombia, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), within the implementation of the Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) model (GEIPP).

Exchange of experiences between countries

During the visit, participants shared key experiences on progress, challenges, and best practices linked to sustainable industrial transformation. The Peruvian delegation included:

  • Tania Ramírez García, Member of Congress of the Republic of Peru

  • César M. Quispe Luján, Vice Minister of Peru’s Ministry of Production

  • Marybel Vidal, Director of the National Programme for Productive Development (PNDP)

  • Carmen Julia García, National Coordinator of the EIP Peru project

These authorities learned firsthand about ZFB’s work—exploring its infrastructure, environmental management, and business-coordination model—helping identify opportunities for improvement and adaptation in the Peruvian context.

Toward a more sustainable and inclusive industry

The meeting encouraged reflection on the strategic role free trade zones play in promoting a more sustainable, competitive, and inclusive industry. It also highlighted a shared commitment to move toward production models that respect the environment, optimize resources, and generate shared benefits.

Thanks to the Bogotá Free Trade Zone

UNIDO thanked the Bogotá Free Trade Zone for opening its doors and enabling this valuable exchange of knowledge, which directly contributes to the development and consolidation of Eco-Industrial Parks in the region.
